Moving forward and looking ahead means embracing the latest innovations. Here are some of those ideas we’ve implementing that help make our community better everyday.
“WELCOME HOME”
Building Social Community
The Metro Center Association’s “Welcome Home” initiative is aimed at culturally connecting housed Metro Center residents with those experiencing homelessness in our downtown neighborhood. The arts and social activities provide our meeting places.
This contact with the guests at Friends of the Homeless on Worthington Stree uplifts all residents and creates community as we
enjoy our shared humanity.
Residents living in houses will have unique opportunities to learn that unhoused neighbors do not fit into one essentializing and alienating stereotype. The lives of the unhoused will be enriched by being included and welcomed into cultural activities, not marginalized as has too often been the case.
Metro Center and guests of Friends of the Homeless enjoyed the music and intermission treats at Springfield Symphony Orchestra concert together.
